Pushing the Limits of an Energy-efficiency Hospital
The St. Michael Medical Center Acute Care Expansion creates a highly efficient, sustainable and flexible healthcare delivery system that serves as a source of pride for patients, providers, staff and the region.

The 550,000 SF, nine-story facility adds a 240-bed hospital, a medical office building and a parking garage to the existing medical campus. It includes 44 new acute care beds, 13 new procedural rooms, a 56-bay emergency services department, a birth center, surgical services and heart, stroke and orthopedic care along with support spaces, laboratory, pharmacy, food service, and staff areas. Health and well-being are inextricably linked, and St. Michael Medical Center honors that connection and the resulting responsibility through its sustainable design. Energy modeling predicts an EUI of 98.2, while the project is projected to save 31.9 percent in energy costs compared to baseline energy code.
