Hangar Construction Amidst Active Flight Line
New construction of a 65,000 SF Type III high bay aircraft maintenance hangar and two-story administrative building.

This project provides necessary aircraft maintenance capacity that can accommodate the new C-40 aircraft. Special features include uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and back-up generators, steel framed gravity and lateral system, pile foundation, metal decking with concrete fill, metal deck roof, trench grate nozzle for aqueous film forming foam (AFFF), compressed air, LEED Silver construction, and Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (ATFP) features. The site work for this project was extensive, with VECA providing a new medium voltage primary service and distribution system as well as a new fiber optic backbone. VECA helped design and install specialty systems for aircraft, and this was an enhanced security facility with multiple security protocols for the Navy. The hangar featured an extensive intercom/paging system throughout, along with a lightning protection and grounding system, redundant fire protection and suppression systems, and an integrated energy management system.
